World Sprinkle Day

 On Today

World Sprinkle Day

Date

23 July 2021

History

During the 18 C, sprinkles were officially known as Nonpareils and were only used for princesses birthdays or grand events because they were very tough to make during those times. Why 23 July is that, a special treat was invented in Australia which uses candu sprinkles known as fairy bread, which involves buttered white bread with sugar sprinkles on top.

Meaning

Basically, sprinkles are small pieces of confectionary used for decoration or to add textures to desserts such as cakes, muffins, doughnuts or ice-cream.  We all know that sprinkles are often really good with either frosting or ice-cream or butter. While I was checking out the recipe to make sprinkles at home, I was really shocked to see how easy it to make them. It just takes 6 steps!!

1. Sift a cup of the powdered sugar into a large bowl. It’s important to sift so no small clumps clog your piping tip later on.

2. Add the light corn syrup, vanilla if using, and 1.5 tbsp water.

3. Beat until smooth. You can add more water a teaspoon at a time if needed. Once smooth add the remaining powdered sugar and mix. The final consistency should be thick but smooth and flowing

4. Separate the icing into however many batches you’d like then mix food coloring in until desired color is reached. The sprinkles will fade a bit as they dry so go ahead and add a bit more color than you might otherwise.

5. Transfer the mixture to a piping bag fitted with a 3, 4, or 5 tip and then pipe straight lines onto a piece of parchment paper.

6. Once your sprinkles are dry you can chop them with a knife or break them apart with your hands. Since they’re homemade you can cut them to any length you like.

Final Conclusion

"I definitely gravitate towards things like vegetables, chicken, brown rice, but I don't deprive myself of anything. If I want a Sprinkles cupcake, I'm having a Sprinkles cupcake. But I'm not going to have one every day... you just have to have a sensible outlook on all of it."
