June 13, is observed as World Sewing Machine Day. The World Sewing Machine Day was started to remember the machine which revolutionised the textile industry. The widely-used sewing machine was invented by the French tailor Barthélemy Thimonnier in 1829.
In less than 25 years after's its invention, the US manufactured more than 110,000 machines. The majority of the women became the bread earner of the family by sewing. As the invention of the sewing machine drastically reduces the time taken for making a dress. This gave way for improved designs.
On this day, you can open out the sewing machine you had put out in the garage and start using it while remembering the nostalgic memory of your grandmother knitting a jumper for you.
How much ever we advance in technology we must never forget some of the most inspirational tools of the past like the needle, the tire and the rope.
